Malkangiri: In the continuing surrender spree in the district, 117 Maoist sympathisers, including 34 women, 14 militia members and three members of Chetna Natya Madali, the cultural wing of the Maoists, surrendered to Mathili police and joined the social mainstream on Monday.

“All of them belong to Barha village under Mathili police station limits. The surrendered rebels include 14 militia members and seven village committee members who were working for Darava Division of CPI (Maoist),” Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra told media persons here.

He said they will be rehabilitated as per surrender and rehabilitation policy of the state government.

On Sunday, 57 Maoist supporters, including 25 women, had surrendered to Poteru police. All of them belong to Tamuda village under Kalimela police limits in the district and were working for Kalimela Dalam division of CPI (Maoist).

Prior to this, 19 Maoist sympathizers of Darava Division had surrendered to police on March 11 while about 150 Maoist supporters had surrendered on March 5. A day later, 39 Maoist supporters from Tembrupalli village under Mathili police limits had also surrendered.

In the last four months, over 1000 Maoist sympathisers have surrendered to the police in Malkangiri district.
