Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police DG Rajendra Prasad Sharma on Monday informed that the investigation into the theft of bullets from the armoury of Sundargarh Reserve Police is underway and stern action would be taken against those involved in the crime.

Speaking to the media, Sharma said that an Additional SP of Sundergarh is supervising the investigation into the case and a probe is underway to ascertain the involvement of any guard of the armoury in the theft.

It is pertinent to mention here that as many as 60 live bullets were stolen from the Reserve Police armoury on December 1. Later, all the live bullets were recovered from the possession of a constable, Gulshan Kiro.

Taking cognizance of the incident, Kiro was arrested and placed under suspension while disciplinary proceedings were reportedly initiated against another official.

"There's no proof regarding to the involvement of any outsider as of now. The accused is also not able to clarify his very intention behind the theft. We will take him on remand for more days for interrogation," he added.

Earlier, Sundargarh SP Soumya Mishra had also assured of action against those who will be found guilty for dereliction of duty.
