Visakhapatnam Railway Station
Visakhapatnam Railway Station, that falls under the Waltair division of the East Coast Railway (ECoR), has been awarded the Green Railway Station Certification with the highest 'Platinum' rating by the Global Green Building Council (GGBC).
The recognition underscores the station’s comprehensive adoption of sustainable practices and eco-friendly measures designed to reduce its environmental footprint. The certification adheres to a framework developed jointly by the Environment Directorate of Indian Railways and the GGBC, which emphasizes critical priorities such as:
- Water conservation
-Scientific waste management
- Energy efficiency
- Reduced reliance on fossil fuels
- Minimal use of virgin materials
- Health and well-being of passengers and railway staff

According to The Hans India, Lalit Bohra, Divisional Railway Manager, Waltair Division, lauded the collective efforts of all departments, especially the Environment and Housekeeping Management wing, in maintaining clean and green station standards.
The certification was officially issued on September 5, 2025, and will remain valid until September 4, 2028.
