Berhampur: Police cases against ex-Sankhemundi legislator Ramesh Jena seem to be piling up by the day.

Ganjam superintendent of police (SP) Asish Singh told media persons that a fresh case has been registered against Jena today in connection with the Chicken Rabi murder case in 2010.

“We have lodged another FIR against Ramesh Jena under Goshaninuaogaon PS on charges of threatening the witnesses of Chicken Ravi murder case. The case has been filed under section 195 (A), 294, 506 and 34 of IPC,” Singh stated.

Notably Jena is the main accused in the Chicken Rabi alias Rabi Behera murder case in Berhampur. He was arrested in 2010 and spent time in jail before being granted bail by the Orissa High Court.

Meanwhile, Jena deposed before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in Aska today. The court is expected to hear the petition filed by the police to take Jena on a five-day remand in connection with a tender fixing case.

A case of tender fixing at Irrigation office under Aska police limits was registered against Jena on Monday after police gathered evidence in this regard. The allegation was leveled on February 24 and Aska police arrested two persons during investigation.

Police sources said they have slapped 12 cases on Jena, including murder, attempt to murder, land grabbing, gutkha trade, liquor trade, tender fixing and possession of illegal arms.

On the other hand, Ramesh’s father Arakhita and corporator of Berhampur Municipal Corporation R Murali Mohan, who were taken on remand for a week, are being interrogated. Though police are tight-lipped about the interrogation, the two have reportedly divulged some vital clues about bank transactions and other businesses of Jena.

Singh informed the media that so far 18 anti-socials have been arrested in Berhampur in a special drive to make the silk city free of goons.
