Police arrest militia accused of killing sarpanch in Koraput
Koraput: Police have arrested a hardcore militia accused of murdering Sarpanch of Hatibari panchayat, Jagannath Khara, in Koraput district on August 7, 2017.
Acting on a tip off, Padua police intercepted Appanna Seda of Baliaguda village in the district and arrested him yesterday.
“Padua police has arrested a militia, Appanna, who was involved in the murder of Hatibari Sarpanch. Police are investigating his involvement in other cases,” informed Koraput SP Kanwar Bishal Singh.
On August 7, 2017, a group of armed Maoists stormed into the village and had dragged Khara out of his house. Later, they took him to the village outskirts and murdered him by slitting his throat.
As per reports, the red rebels had killed him for alleged involvement in corruption and exploitation of tribal residents of the panchayat.
