Cuttack: The Crime Branch of Odisha Police has arrested main accused Kartik Pani from Niali in connection with murder of RTI activist Krupasindhu Sahu, said ADG of the investigating body B.K. Sharma here today.

Pani was on the run since the police launched a man-hunt to arrest killers of the RTI activist whose body was found buried near Tanla river on January 31 this year.

Sources said Pani was convicted and imprisoned earlier also in another murder case. Moreover, he is allegedly involved in five other serious cases.

Earlier, Pratap Kumar Jena, Sushila Pani and Manju Sahu were arrested for their alleged involvement in Sahu’s murder. The Crime Branch took charge of the probe into the killing after demands from several quarters.

The RTI activist, basically a farmer, had sought information regarding cultivation in Niali area, which is believed to be the reason behind the murder as the information becoming public hit hard some corrupt but influential persons of the area.
