Cuttack: After examining all government doctors who had treated the Pipili gang rape victim of 2011, the Justice P K Mohanty Commission of Enquiry today issued notices to two private doctors to depose before it.

Dr A K Rath and Dr P C Mohanty, who had separately treated the victim on two different occasions, have been asked to appear before the Commission on March 21 for examination-in-chief and face cross examinations.

The victim was first discharged from the SCB Medical College and Hospital in December 2011 and was taken to a private hospital on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, where Dr Rath treated her for about two weeks.

Similarly, when the victim was discharged from the Cuttack teaching hospital for the second time in January 2012, she was treated for a brief period at a private hospital here under the supervision of Dr Mohanty, a retired professor.

As it became imperative for the Commission to examine all angles leading to the alleged neglect in treatment of the victim, for which she died after slipping into coma for more than six months, the Commission felt it necessary to summon the private doctors, said advocate Pravat Ranjan Dash, appearing in the Commission for former SCB medical college and hospital superintendent Dr D N Moharana.
