Bhubaneswar: The northern and coastal parts of Odisha are likely to experience heavy rainfall in next 24 hrs as a cyclonic circulation formed over north west Bay of Bengal may transform into a low pressure, said the Meteorological department here on Thursday.

The department also asked fishermen to be cautious while venturing into sea. Surface wind is expected to reach 30 to 50kmph in the coastal areas during next 24 hrs, the forecast added.

Yesterday, Burla town recorded the maximum rainfall of 118mm.

Meanwhile, the authorities of Hiraku Dam opened 15 gates to release excess flood water following heavy rain in the upper catchment areas. The water level of the dam reached 623.65 ft as against the full capacity of 630 ft.

Sources said while 2 lakh 46 thousand cusec water is entering the dam, 1 lakh 97 thousand cusec water is being released from the reservoir.
