Five awarded death penalty for gangrape, murder of minor girl

Keonjhar: Five persons have been awarded capital punishment in connection with the gangrape and murder of a minor girl in Belakundi in Keonjhar district. The Champua Additional District and Sessions court awarded the sentence to the convicts who have been identified as Mata Munda, Mangal Prusty, Jiten Munda, Harjit Singh and Biswanath Munda.

The crime occurred in Belakundi village in the year 2012. Seven persons were found guilty in the incident. However, two of the accused are still absconding.

Notably, the victim, a class VIII student, was gangraped and later murdered while she was went out for tuition in Barbil Basti. The family members of the victim found her body near the village after she did not return from her tuition.
