Bhubaneswar: Counselling and choice locking of students of Jaring-based Sardar Rajas Medical College (SRMC) will be held on Friday, an interim notification issued by Odisha government said on Thursday.

The students will be able to download their allotment card on January 16 and admission will be held at the Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) office on January 18, the notification added.

A total of 41 students each will be relocated to three private colleges in the State as directed by the Supreme Court. The apex court on Tuesday had asked the State government to relocate the students of the SRMC.

The State government was asked to complete the admission of the students within seven days, besides carrying out the admissions within the government stipulated course fee.

Earlier, 55 students of Sardar Rajas medical college were absorbed in MKCG Medical College while 54 students were relocated to VIMSAR. Five students each were admitted in three private institutions – Hi Tech Medical College, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) and Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) and Sum Hospital.

But with the verdict of the apex court, all students who took admission in the two government colleges, will now be relocated and admitted to the three private medical colleges.

On January 5, 124 medicos of the Sardar Rajas medical college in Kalahandi, who were relocated in five institutions in the State as per an order of the Orissa High Court, were barred by the Supreme Court from attending classes.

In the last hearing of the case on January 8, the apex court had upheld its stay preventing Sardar Rajas Medical College students, who have been relocated to other colleges, from attending classes till the final hearing of the case.

On December 16 last, the students of Sardar Rajas medical college had received a much-needed shot in the arm after the apex court gave the Odisha government permission to go ahead with the admission of these students in two government and three private medical colleges of the State as per the order of the High Court.
