Berhampur: Following the recent spurt in the number of Covid-19 cases in Surat, the Ganjam district administration on Wednesday urged people to be alert and informed about the resurgence of the pandemic in the Gujarat state which is home to thousands of migrant workers from the district.

A crucial meeting under the chairmanship of the district Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange was held on Wednesday at Berhampur to chalk out plans for tackling the possibilities in the event the virus returned. All the Block Development Officers (BDO), Tehsildars and several senior police officers of the district were present in the meeting.

"Covid-19 is very much in control in Ganjam. But people should not be complacent and drop their guard to attract another wave of infections in the district," said Kulange.

"The district administration has kept a strong vigil on Surat returnees. We have advised villagers to inform us about any new comers or travelers with Covid-19 symptoms," he said.

In view of the surge in Covid-19 in Gujarat, the district administration has taken adequate measures to fight the virus, said the collector.

According to sources, adequate testing numbers will be maintained. Vendors and shopkeepers in market places of NACs/Towns shall have to adhere strict Covid-19 appropriate behaviour. If any anybody was found violating Covid-19 appropriate strict action will be taken against him.

"We have decided to ensure strict enforcement of Covid-19 guidelines during a number of upcoming festivals like Tara Tarini Yatra, Budhi Thakurani Yatra and Danda Yatra," said Kulange.

"Everyone should wear mask and desist from unnecessarily overcrowding in public places during the festivals which will not be allowed. The enforcement teams will be authorised to initiate action against the violators," he added.
