New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: The Supreme Court on Wednesday set aside the review petition of Speaker Pradip Kumar Amat regarding the controversial four Nationalist Congress Party MLAs’merger with the BJD.
Reacting to the Apex court’s verdict, Amat said that no document regarding the verdict has reached yet. Next course of action will be decided as per law, he said.
The Apex court had earlier dismissed the special leave petition of the Speaker over the same issue. The court had also directed Amat to decide on the validity of their Assembly membership within eight weeks.
The NCP MLAs-Amar Prasad Satpathy, Naveen Nanda, Prasant Nanda and Ramachandra Hansda- had joined BJD on June 5, 2012 opposing which NCP state president Utkal Keshari Parida moved High Court seeking scrapping of their membership in Sate Assembly. The High Court asked the Speaker to decide on the matter within eight weeks.
Challenging the HC’s order, the Speaker filed special leave petition which was rejected by Supreme Court upholding the HC order.
