Bhubaneswar: After a long spell of blistering heat waves, the south west monsoon finally hit the state on Sunday giving much relief to the citizens. Though the monsoon-powered rain has touched almost every part of the state, districts like Sundergarh and Jharsuguda are yet to receive the first spell of rain, local meteorological department said. "The conditions are favourable for further advance of the monsoon into ramaining parts of the state during next three days" SC Sahu, Director, Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre said.

On Saturday Kendrapara and Keonjhar districts recorded the highest rainfall while Bargarh, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur and Deogarh districts received moderate rain. In the past 24 hours Ghatagaon in Keonjhar district received 190mm of rain, while Alutuma (Dhenkanal), Bhadrakh and Nimapara received 153.4, 109, 105.8mm of rain, respectively. According to the local Met department, Bhubaneswar received 42.6mm of monsoon rain in the past 24 hours.

With a background of agrarian economy, the whole state waits for a good monsoon this year.
