Cuttack: Hundreds of undergraduate students of SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack on Thursday staged demonstration demanding autonomous status for the medical college.

Agitating students alleged that as the medical college is under the accreditation of Utkal University, they have been facing several issues including delay in publication of results, getting mark sheet and anomalies in the printing of results as well.

“Being one of the prominent medical colleges of Odisha, SCB is still under the accreditation of Utkal University and the State Government seems to have turned a blind eye towards the issue. Although the CM had announced the establishment of a health university five years back, any decision regarding the plan is yet to be taken,” said Deepak Kumar Samal, President of Undergraduate Students Union Of SCBMCH.

“We have also come across mistakes in results due to which many talented students fail in examination. Despite repeated complaints, the concerned authorities are yet to take any steps to resolve our issues,” he added.

The students further demanded the establishment of a health university in the State at the earliest. They also threatened to continue the protest unless their demands are met. However, the under graduate students said that health service in the hospital will continue without any disruption.

Neither the authorities of SCB nor State government is yet to comment on the matter yet.
