A gruesome attack left a woman battling for her life in Baripada after unidentified miscreants assaulted her with sharp weapons while she had gone to wash clothes at a pond near her village on Sunday. The shocking incident took place in the afternoon in Badakhaman village under Udala police limits of Mayurbhanj district.
According to sources, the victim had finished her daily household chores and went to the nearby pond to wash clothes. However, when she did not return for a long time, her family members grew anxious and began searching for her. Their worst fears came true when they found her lying in a pool of blood inside a bush near the pond.
The woman had sustained deep injuries on her neck, which was slit with a sharp weapon, and severe wounds on her head. Family members, with the help of villagers, immediately rushed her to Udala hospital.
Considering the seriousness of her injuries, doctors later referred her to Baripada Medical College and Hospital, where her condition remains critical.
The motive behind the brutal attack is yet to be ascertained. Police have registered a case and launched a probe. Meanwhile, the shocking incident has triggered panic and anger among locals, who have demanded swift action to nab the culprit(s).
No comments were received from local police or the victim’s family in this regard.
Worth mentioning, earlier in another incident and in a disturbing act of domestic violence, a man had allegedly attacked his wife on September 18 with a knife in full public view in Balasore district, leaving her critically injured.
The recent fatal incident, which had occurred at around 4.30 PM in Pathan Mohalla locality under Balasore Town police limits, was captured on camera and has since sent shockwaves across the local community.
