Bhubaneswar: Congress, on the last day of nomination for first phase polls in Odisha, changed its candidate for 4 Assembly seats in the state.

The Assembly seats where candidates were changed were Phulbani in Kandhamal district, Lanjigarh in Kalahandi district and Khalikote and Raghunathpalli in Ganjam district.

Bhokali Sethi in Khalikote Assembly seat was replaced by Pandaba Jali whereas the party granted ticket to Sudarshana Kanhar from Phulbani Assembly seat in place of Jalandhar Kanhar.

Besides, Pradeep Dishari has been announced as the candidate in place of Shivaji Majhi in Lanjigarh, while, Gajendra Tanti would be the party’s candidate in Raghunathpalli replacing Ashok Sethi.

Earlier in the day, the party announced names of its candidates for four Assembly seats. Kishore Patel will contest from Brajarajnagar, Makarananda Muduli from Rayagada whereas the party fielded Surya Rao from Paralakhemundi and Sibaram Patra from Hinjili Assembly seat.

Notably, on Friday, BJP had changed its candidates for Daspalla, Narla, Khariar, Deogarh and Khallikote Assembly seats.

The ruling BJD also adopted a similar exercise in two seats after announcement of candidate lists.

The ruling party replaced Latika Pradhan by nine-time MLA V Sugnana Kumari Devi in Kabisurya Nagar in Ganjam district and Harekrushna Sarangi by Rajya Sabha MP and sitting MLA AU Singhdeo in the Bolangir Assembly seat.
