Girl dead, mother and sister critical after being hit by train in Odisha's Sukinda
A tragic train accident in Jajpur district’s Sukinda division claimed the life of a young girl and left her mother and younger sister critically injured late Saturday night.
The incident occurred near Botalanda, when a woman and her two daughters were struck by a train while crossing the tracks. The elder daughter, identified as Sushree Behera, daughter of Sharan Behera of Mulakhamba village, died on the spot.
The girl’s mother, Kuni Behera, and her younger daughter were rescued by locals with the help of Sukinda police and immediately shifted to Sukinda Medical, where their condition is reported to be critical.
The tragedy has cast a pall of grief over the local community, with residents expressing shock over the devastating loss suffered by the family.
Following initial treatment, doctors referred Kuni Behera to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack due to the severity of her injuries. Her younger daughter, however, was reported to be stable after receiving primary medical care at Sukinda Medical.
The circumstances leading to the tragic incident remain uncertain. It is not yet clear how the woman and her daughters were hit by the train. The lack of clarity has raised questions, prompting further inquiry into the sequence of events.
Police have begun a detailed investigation to ascertain the cause of the mishap. Officers are examining possible factors behind the accident and are expected to shed more light on the incident after further probe.
