The first day of the two-day review meeting, convened to study the progress of different steel projects in the state, in fact, turned out to be a platform for the industries to hold the state government responsible for the poor progress of project works for lack of appropriate action on its part. Prominent corporate houses like Bhushan Steels and Power Ltd. drew the attention of the minister and bureaucrats to the problems faced by them.
“What I have requested today is that we applicants are very serious. So, our mining should be recommended as fast as possible because in India we have so many environment and forest laws. And I think if it is not done expeditiously, we will die our own death. It is unfortunate that till today we have been given one small mine which is just 10 mt only”, said Sanjeev Kapoor, Vice President, Commercial, Bhushan Steel and Power.
Even the largest FDI in the country, POSCO is yet to receive environmental clearance. The same condition is with Jindal Steel and Power Limited. Another steel major Arcelor-Mittal is yet to acquire lands for its project in the state.
Meanwhile, the Minister said that a detailed review of the progress works of nine companies was conducted on the first day.
“Discussions about the units failed to progress satisfactorily were held and decisions were taken to rectify the mistakes that hinder the progress work of companies”, said minister Raghunath Mohanty.
