Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police has decided to intensify combing operation in vulnerable pockets in the state in order to conduct a free and fair elections.

"Security personnel have been directed to intensify operation against the left wing ultras to foil their attempt to disrupt the poll process," DGP Prakash Mishra today said after reviewing situation at six districts in southern part of the state.

Presiding over a review meeting with senior police officials at the district headquarters in Koraput on the elections' preparedness in the district, Mishra asked the officials to pay special attention to the safety of the candidates, voters and ensure tight security in and around the polling booths.

ADG Sanjib Marik, IG Soumendra Priyadarshi and IG South-Western Range Yashwant Jethwa were present at the meeting.

Besides, the DGP also met senior officers of CRPF and BSF engaged in anti-Maoist operation in the state.

Sources said Centre has already sanctioned the state's request to send 50 additional companies of Central para military force for the elections.
