Cuttack: Amidst mounting pressure, Badambadi Police registered a case against BJD MLA Debasish Samantaray for shoving Pulwama martyr’s kin. The development came after Mahila Congress filed a complaint against the MLA yesterday. Moreover, the case will be transferred to Niali Police station where the incident actually occurred on February 16, informed Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh today.

Protesting the misbehaviour shown towards the Pulwama attack martyr’s kin, the Congress activists today staged a demonstration at Badambadi chhak.

“We are demanding immediate arrest of the BJD MLA for misbehaving and shoving the martyr’s kin which has brought bad name to Odisha. We will intensify our agitation, if no step is taken on our demands,” said Congress leader, Giribala Behera.

It is pertinent to mention here that BJD MLA Debasish Samantaray had drawn ire for his behaviour during the conduct of last rites of martyr Manoj Behera in Ratanpur of Cuttack district on February 16. The entire incident was captured on camera and later went viral on social media

Azad News, a Pakistan-based TV channel had recently telecast the visuals in which Samantaray is seen shoving the relative of Pulwama attack martyr Manoj Behera.

Following criticisms, Samantaray had apologised for his action and stated that, “I had made the relative of martyr Manoj Behera to sit after he pushed Union Minister Jual Oram during guard of honour. I had no intention of hurting anyone’s feelings.”

Meanwhile, BJD spokesperson Pratap Deb yesterday said Debasish has already apologised and the party will take a call on action to be taken against him.
