Dhenkanal: A youth was arrested on Sunday for allegedly killing a newborn girl born out of wedlock in Surapratappur under Bhuban police limits in Kamakshyanagar. The accused has been identified as Silu Swain.

According to reports, Silu was into a relationship with a girl of the same village for the past couple of years. With a promise to marry her, Silu had established physical relation with the girl.

However, the relationship turned sour after the girl became pregnant.

According to reports, Silu started to torture and harass the girl after she delivered a baby on December 6 and was pressurizing him for marriage.

The girl's family had registered a complaint against Silu for allegedly killing the newborn by strangulating her, police said.
