Cuttack: Hundreds of patients at SCB Medical College and Hospital were left in the lurch after Nucleic acid testing (NAT) was stopped due to 'technical glitch' in the machine at the blood bank on Friday.
This created problems particularly for scheduled surgeries that were lined up for Saturday as the operations at major departments including Orthopaedics and Surgery department got delayed.
Sources said, blood samples were earlier collected from patients yesterday and the blood bank authorities were supposed to issue blood units after the tests today morning.
SCB Emergency Officer BN Moharana on the other hand informed that already the process of rectifying the technical glitch in the machine has begun.
"There was no disruption in services of the blood bank as adequate amount of tested blood was available," said Moharana.
Moharana further stated that adequate precaution is usually taken during conduct of the blood tests before transfusion and it takes nearly six hours to complete the investigations.
