Bhadrak: Panic erupted at Sailo village under Dhamanagar block in the district after a portion of Kochila river embankment caved in on Sunday.

As many as 10 families staying near the embankment are now in a constant state of fear of losing their homes.

As per reports, a few days earlier, the local administration had carried out some repair works at the embankment.

However, due to the recent rains the southern portion of the embankment in the village caved in to a stretch of nearly 200mts.

During the embankment repair work, the authorities wanted to cut the trees near the embankment but the locals resisted the move. This is believed to be one of the reasons behind the fall of the protection wall.

Meanwhile, the concerned authorities said that after a ground zero report, they would take further action to restore the embankment.
