Rourkela: Police today arrested three persons including two siblings of deceased Amrita Singh, who was allegedly strangulated to death recently in a suspected case of honour killing in the city. The brother-in-law was also nabbed in the case.

The trio was allegedly involved in the murder of Amrita. They had also reportedly burnt the body of the deceased in a bid to destroy evidence, police said.

They committed the crime in honour of their family as Amrita Singh married a person belonging to a different religion, police added.

The matter came to light after victim’s husband- Nasim Khan- lodged a complaint with police on May 11 alleging that her family members killed her and discreetly cremated the body without informing him.

Both Nasim and Amrita had tied nuptial knot in 2016 while the latter’s parents were against their relationship.

It was on the request of in-laws, Nasim had allowed Amrita to visit her parents for a wedding function.
