Bhubaneswar: The state Assembly will be convened for a two-day special session to discuss the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) bill, a mandatory requisite that needs to be followed before the proposed nationwide implementation of uniform GST. The decision to convene a special session came after an approval from the Governor.

The special session will be held on May 18 and 19, official sources said on Monday.

The State GST being adopted by several States is basically the mirror image of the Central GST Bill.

As per plans, prior to the session, a workshop would be also be organised by a Central team for the MLAs of the state for a brief understanding of the new nationwide tax regime.

Besides, the special session of the Odisha Assembly is likely to discuss various issues including the State’s share, likely losses and gains from the GST regime and amendment to the Odisha Value Added Tax (VAT).
