Bhubaneswar: The State Government today sought a report from the authorities of SCB Medical College and Hospital a day after Uliburu mining scam accused Deepak Gupta was exposed misusing furlough granted to him on medical grounds in a bid to escape prison custody.

Health Minister Damodar Rout said stringent action would be taken against anybody in the hospital found guilty of helping Gupta.

Notably, Gupta, who was lodged in Keonjhar district jail on September 11, 2013 following his arrest in connection with the Rs 1,800-crore illegal mining, availed 103 days of furlough out of 167 days.

While he had been admitted to the Cuttack-based hospital on the “pretext” of health issues, investigations conducted by OTV found that he had been staying in a hotel.

Involvement of employees of the hospital is being suspected in assisting the under trial prisoner.

Earlier in the day, four constables and one havildar, who were entrusted with the responsibility of Gupta’s security, were suspended for showing delinquency in duty.
