Keonjhar: An office under electricity department in Keonjhar on Thursday lodged a complaint against a local bank for not accepting coins as deposit.

According to information, Subrat Kumar Sharma, an electricity department staff on Thursday went to deposit collected amount of Rs 10,000, all in coins at Ghatgaon based Bank of India (BoI) branch but the authorities refused to accept the deposit citing coin overload as the reason for non-acceptance.

Furious over the incident, the staff threw away the depositing amount inside the bank and later his office also reportedly lodged a written complaint against the bank authorities at Ghatgaon police station.

Asked, Sharma said, “Since we collect bill from rural areas people give us lot of coins. We deposit around Rs 15 lakh every month. So if the banks do not accept we have no other option. Even after trying to convince the bank authorities for nearly two hours, they did not pay heed to my request and so I threw the deposit and went away.”
