Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will hold a meeting at the Secretariat here today to review the preparedness to meet the possible cyclonic storm Kyant.

The meeting would discuss on shifting of people to safe locations and their safety and other preparatory measures. The CM would talk to Collectors of Coastal and other districts through video conference in this regard. Besides the Chief Secretary, the Police DG, the Revenue and other ministers, secretaries of various departments and official of NDRF, Fire Services, ODRAF and OSDMA will attend the meeting.

According the IMD, the deep depression formed over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm in next 12 hours. The impact of the cyclone will be felt in Odisha on October 27.

After reaching north-west Bay of Bengal, the deep depression will intensify into a cyclonic storm and move with a wind speed of 80-90 kmph. Under its influence, the sea condition would be very rough as the wind speed will be around 45-55 kmph with maximum speed up to 65 kmph. Under the influence of the cyclonic storm, the state is likely to experience sporadic rains on October 26 and 27.

Coastal and 11 other nearby districts are likely to be affected by the storm, the regional Met department said.
