Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday unveiled a statue of Odisha's first woman chief minister Nandini Satpathy on the occasion of her 85th birth anniversary.

The 10-feet high statue of the former chief minister was near Raj Bhavan here.

"Smt. Nandini Satpathy was the first woman chief minister of Odisha and known as a good administrator," Patnaik said after unveiling the statue for which the department of culture has spent an amount of Rs 5.8 lakh.

"The chief minister has empowered the women of the state by unveiling a statue of Smt. Nandini Satpathy. She was a great chief minister," said BJD MP Tathagat Satpathy, who happens to be son of Nandini Satpathy.

A host of functions and meetings were organised in several places of the state, including the capital city, on the occasion where rich tributes were paid to the late leader by distinguished personalities.
