Bolangir: Nothing is impossible if you work dedicatedly towards your dream. And a group of students in Bolangir have proved this true by coming up with a ‘mini-car’ prototype that can help people looking for affordable means of transportation.

The dream of nearly 30 students of Government Polytechnic College translated into reality as the red mini-car they developed, started rolling on the road. The red beauty caught the attention of the residents on its first ride in the town!

It took nearly 1.5 months for the students to give shape to the idea which was initially part of their course project. The students took assistance of Rahul Padhi, an automobile engineer in designing the two-seater mini-wonder car.

The idea of the students finally took shape at the workshop of Rahul’s father.

“We are happy as our mini-car has been successful in all the test rides. All the students collected money to come up with the car model that can be an alternative mode of transport for those who don’t want to invest lakhs in purchasing a four wheeler,” said Jagannath Panda, a student.

The students claimed that they have been successful in coming up with the car at an estimated cost of Rs 50,000. It can run at a top speed of 50 km/hr and cover a distance of 45 kms per litre of petrol.

"The students have really worked hard for the project," said Rahul.

The car which actually uses the engine of a motorcycle and has an auto-chain tightening system makes it absolutely maintenance free for the user.

“Our car can be a great option for any person who wants to buy a car at low costs. At present, has a sitting arrangement for two persons including driver, we can work on coming up with a four seater car if we get some support from the government,” another another member of the team.
