Cuttack: House surgeons and undergraduate students of SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, who have been on cease-work stir since Tuesday over alleged assault of a colleague by a patient’s attendant, withdrew their stir today.

The agitating doctors agreed to withdraw the stir after getting a written assurance from the Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) Prakash Mohapatra on fulfilment of two of their demands.

Earlier today, Mohapatra met the agitating doctors and said their demands were justified and steps will be taken to address their grievances.

Protesting an alleged assault on one of their colleagues by a relative of a patient on Tuesday night, the junior doctors boycotted work since Wednesday morning and demanded punishment for the accused.

They also demanded a hike in stipend, transfer of the hospital superintendent, increased security for doctors and installation of CCTV cameras in the hospital.
