A fresh incident of a dead body being found in a coal-laden train wagon was reported at Paradip Port. The train, which had transported coal from the Talcher mining area, reached the port on Sunday afternoon. While unloading coal at the Mechanical Coal Handling Plant (MCHP), workers discovered the body buried under coal in one of the wagons.

Despite the discovery, nearly a day later, the body was still lying inside the wagon tippler. As the body remained unremoved, coal unloading operations at the MCHP tippler halted since Sunday afternoon. The deceased has not yet been identified.

Similar Case Reported Earlier in the Week

This incident comes barely a week after another dead body was found lying face down on a coal train wagon at the port. The incident was reported on September 14.

The identities of both deceased persons remain unknown, raising serious concerns over lapses in the identification process.

Police Response and Rising Questions

According to reports, when contacted on Monday, police officials said they would soon reach the site to recover the body and follow due protocols. It is suspected that the police could not recover the body earlier due to their deployment at Lord Biswakarma’s idol immersion procession.

The repeated discovery of unidentified bodies in coal wagons arriving at Paradip has sparked widespread suspicion. Questions are being raised over who these individuals are, whether they are part of gangs involved in coal theft, workers who lost their lives in accidents, or victims of foul play. Doubts have also deepened over why no progress is ever made in identification and why investigations appear stalled midway.

The back-to-back incidents have not only disrupted coal operations but also triggered concerns about law and order, as well as the port’s security framework.
