Malkangiri: The spree of surrender of Maoist sympathisers in Malkangiri district continued on Thursday with 71 sympathisers surrendering before the Malkangiri SP at the district headquarters.

Of the 71 sympathisers, 23 are women.

Talking to media persons, Malkangiri SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra said of the 71 sympathisers of Daldali and Gurupadar villages under Mathili police station, 18 are militia, six are village committee members and five belong to Chetana Mandali. They were working for Darabha Division of the outlawed CPI-Maoists.

Welcoming the sympathisers for joining the mainstream of the society, Mahapatra said they would be provided with all assistance as per the surrender policy laid down by the state government.

Notably, more than 1000 Maoist sympathisers of Mathili area have so far surrendered before the police within a month.
