Keonjhar/Cuttack: A day after the expose of Uliburur scam accused Deepak Gupta staying in hotel on medical furloughs, Keonjhar police on Tuesday acted tough on five of its sub-ordinate officials for being delinquent on duty.

Superintendent of police Kabita Jalan suspended four constables and one havildar, who were entrusted with the responsibility of Gupta’s security, over delinquency.

The main accused of the multi-crore Uliburu mining scam Gupta stayed at ‘Hotel Neeladri’ in Cuttack for several days during his 103 days of leave from jail, availed from time to time. It was exposed by the OTV on Monday.

The staggering revelation is that Gupta has been granted the extended furloughs in just 167 days’ stay in the prison as he had been lodged in Keonjhar jail on September 11, 2013.

While he had been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital on the “pretext” of health issues, investigations found that he had been staying in the hotel.
