Bhubaneswar: The BCCI’s working committee, meeting here on Friday is expected to discuss on the alternative overseas venues for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL)-7 following the Union Home Ministry’s denial of foolproof security for the high profile matches scheduled to be held during April-May.

The Indian government had declined to provide security as its dates clash with general elections.

Talking exclusively to OTV, BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel said, “All stakeholders, sponsors, media partners, franchises, and fans prefer that maximum games of the IPL should be played in India. But unfortunately, because of the election the Union Home ministry has told us they would be not able to provide the security part.

“So we are now left with two options. One is to completely play the IPL outside and second option is to play maximum matches of the second part of IPL in India and preliminary rounds outside the country. For that we are considering Bangladesh, UAE and South Africa.”

The official however pointed out that the BCCI is trying to organise the final play-offs and the final match as far as possible in India.

“We are debating on the logistic and financial issues about organizing the matches and the final play-offs keeping in mind our valuable fans,” Patel said.

Throwing light on the possible agenda of Friday’s meeting, Patel stated besides discussion on IPL venues, we want to appraise the working committee members about the ICC structural overhaul.

Patel explained that India is set to gain from the new structure of ICC as from 2015 onwards, India, England and Australia will be permanent members of three major committees of ICC.

"And it has been also decided that from 2015 onwards the first chairman with this new model, N Srinivasan will be there as the chairman," he said.

On the substantial increase in India’s revenue sharing with ICC, he said, “Since past so many years India has become one of the biggest contributors of the earning of the ICC. India is contributing about 68% of the revenue and getting only 4% in return. I am pleased to announce instead of 4% share, now well get 21%. During 2015-23, it is expected BCCI’s gross revenue will be close to 2.75 to 3 billion dollar.

As things stand right now, 75 per cent of ICC earnings are divided between the 10 full member countries equally and the remainder goes to associate members.

“Again out of the remainder, India will get another 4%,” the official informed.

“According to my estimate, within this period of eight years we’ll get around 600 million dollars,” Patel said.
