Bhubaneswar/Baripada: Preparations are in full swing for the All India Under-19 Rugby Championship which will be organised from October 5 to October 9 at MPC Autonomous College playground in Baripada of Mayurbhanj district.

The championship will be jointly organised by North Orissa University (NOU) and Mayurbhanj Rugby Association.

Players and coaches are excited about the championship which will see participation of 32 teams- 20 men's and 12 women's.

"We have come here for the national camp as a part of the preparation for the Asian trophy which will be held in Brunei on October 20 and 21," said Neha Pardeshi, a player.

Jaya Susil Hembram, coach of Mayurbhanj Rugby team, said that the championship is going to be a tough one for the local team due to the presence of teams like Mumbai and Bengal.

Meanwhile, lodging and boarding arrangements for around 900 visitors including players, managers and coaches have been done on NOU campus.

"Footfall of around 1000 is expected, including players, officials and others. We hope the championship will be a grand one," said Sananda Marandi, Deputy Speaker of Odisha Legislative Assembly, who is also the brand ambassador for the championship.
