Paradip/Berhampur: At least eight persons were killed and 35 others injured in three separate road accidents in Jagatsinghpur and Ganjam districts on Monday, police said.

A passenger bus dashed against an oil tanker near Sarala Road in Jagatsinghpur district killing three persons on the spot while another succumbed to injury on the way to S C B Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.

The over-crowded bus from Cuttack to Paradip skidded off the busy road and turned turtle under impact of the collision following which the passengers were thrown off the vehicle, Inspector-in-Charge of Tirtol police station Debadutta Kar said.

The seriously injured have been admitted to hospitals at Manijanga, Raghunathpur and Jagatsinghpur while a few others were discharged after being given first-aid.

In Ganjam district, at least four persons were killed and five others were injured in two different road mishaps.

Three persons were killed on the spot and another five were seriously injured when two vehicles collided with a truck at Ragunathpur, under Chamakhandi police station, on NH 5, about 15-km from Berhampur.

The injured were admitted to MKCG Medical College Hospital in Berhampur and their condition is said to be serious. The deceased are yet to be identified.

In another incident, a 65-year-old bullock cart driver died earlier in the day when a truck knocked down the carriage near Kanishi on National Highway 5.
