A bride from Hyderabad cancelled her wedding after the groom misbehaved with her and her family in an inebriated state during their pre-wedding ceremony held recently.

According to a Times Now report, the incident took place at a resort in Moinabad and a complaint was registered at the Jubilee Hills police station in Hyderabad where the bride's family resides.

The bride’s family in their complaint alleged that the groom and his friends assaulted them at the pre-marriage ceremony. They also objected to the groom’s rude behaviour at the ceremony.

“The bride's family decided to call off the marriage after the incident,” Jubilee Hills inspector S Rajasekhar Reddy was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, the bride's family approached the police to recover the dowry of Rs 3 crore that the groom’s family had received as they were unwilling to return the dowry and had returned to their native place, Chittoor after the incident.

Reportedly, the bride's family had also given a diamond ring and a watch worth Rs 2 lakh to the groom. The girl’s family had spent around Rs 50 lakh to make arrangements for the pre-wedding ceremony.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case against the groom, his family and friends under IPC sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and Dowry Prohibition Act.a
