Pakistan’s political and economic crisis: Hilarious memes flood internet
Pakistan remains on edge after the dramatic arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan on corruption charges. As Pakistan lurches from one crisis to another, citizens are taking to the streets to protest against Imran's arrest.
Reportedly, the situation in the country has escalated with reports of arson, rioting, and clashes between police and protesters after the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan from outside Islamabad High Court.
According to ARY News, Khan was arrested by security forces at the High Court in Islamabad on Tuesday. He was appearing in court on charges of corruption in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case.
Protests were held across major cities of the country, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Peshawar, and Mardan, The News reported.
Protests were also seen in United States cities including Washington, New York, and Chicago. On Tuesday evening, supporters of Imran Khan gathered outside the Pakistan High Commission in London to protest against his arrest.
Anticipating his arrest, party officials later released a pre-recorded video by Khan in which he urged supporters to come out in support of “true freedom”.
