Kolkata: A trader was shot dead while resisting gunmen who tried to loot money from him at Satyanarayan Market in Burrabazar area in the city on Saturday night, the police said.

Two looters attacked the 50-year-year old trader while he was downing shutter of his shop in the market, but he resisted. The gunmen then shot him from close range and decamped with the looted money, the sources said.

Alerted by the gunshot, locals rushed to the spot and took the injured trader to the hospital. However, he died on the way, the sources said. No one was arrested.
