Travelling by train is convenient and it is an eco-friendly way to explore the country. However, buying train tickets can sometimes be expensive, especially if you are travelling during peak hours or on popular routes.

In this article, we will discuss regarding some tips to buy cheap train tickets.

Many trains have a dynamic pricing system, which means that the ticket prices change according to the availability of berths on particular trains. The base fares increase by 10% with every 10% of berths sold, subject to a prescribed ceiling limit. Other supplementary charges like reservation, superfast, catering, and service tax will be levied separately.

Buy cheap Train tickets:

One of the methods to avoid this dynamic pricing system is to book ticket from a different booking and boarding station. For example, if you want to travel from Bhubaneswar to Bengaluru, the fare price is around Rs 2,895. However, if you book from Cuttack, which is prior to Bhubaneswar, and board at Bhubaneswar, the fare comes down to Rs 2,020. Thus, if there is a smaller station as a halt prior to a popular station or junction, there is a possibility of tickets being available at a cheaper rate.

Check the Quota:

It is also important to check the quota of the boarding station and the previous station. Sometimes, the quota at the previous station may not be filled, which means that there is a possibility of getting a cheaper ticket. However, make sure that you enter the correct booking and boarding station while booking your ticket.

By following the above tips, you can save some money and get a cheaper ticket.
