Team India’s splendid performance against Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy has put them in a good position for a spot in the World Test Championship Final.

Two top teams in the ICC World Test Championship series points table will make it to the final. India have currently 64.06 percentage points in their kitty that puts them in a favourable position for the coveted spot.

If India manage to win the four-match Test series 2-0, they will cruise into the final. However, if Australia manage to make a strong comeback and win the next two matches, they will have  63.16 percentage of points. In this scenario, the visitors will qualify for the final.

Then India will have to rely on New Zealand’s performance against Sri Lanka in their next Test series. If Sri Lanka manage to beat New Zealand by 2-0 and India beat Australia with the same score line, Sri Lanka will lock horns with Australia in the WTC final.

Another equation is if Team India manage to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3-0, 3-1 or 4-0, they will automatically qualify for the final by topping the points table with a win percentage of 68.06.

Meanwhile, if Australia lose the series 4-0, their points percentage will sink below 60. In this scenario, there is a possibility of a final between India and Sri Lanka. On the other hand, if Australia lose the ongoing Test series against India with a 3-0 or 3-1 margin then they will seal the WTC Final spot along with India.
