Australia has always been a dominant force in world cricket but the one thing that haunted them was T20 glory. On Sunday, the Kangaroos laid their hands on that elusive trophy in Dubai following a comprehensive eight wicket-victory over New Zealand in the summit clash.

The historic triumph certainly needed something special in celebration and boy Wade and Stoinis delivered.

As the Aussie dressing room burst into wild celebrations after the win, wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis made it even more frenzied. Exploding laughter, both poured beer into their shoes and guzzled every drop of the drink from the boots while clicking pictures.

Stoinis went on to wash his shoe in beer first before taking the sip. Skipper Aaron Finch also did the same, before breaking into song and dance. The video of the incident posted by ICC on various social medial platforms broke the internet.

While many loved every drop of the celebrations like the Aussies, some were however critical of the incident. Even former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar dubbed the celebration as ‘disgusting’.

“A little disgusting way of celebrating no??,” the caption of Twitter post by Rawalpindi Express read.

But it may be mentioned here that this practice of drinking straight from one’s footwear is not uncommon in Australia. In fact it is called ‘doing a shoey’ or simply 'shoey'.

V8 Utes racer Ryal Harris was probably the first one to jump into such a celebration but it was Australian Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo who made it popular across the globe.

Ricciardo introduced the trend by drinking champagne from his shoe after a podium finish at the German GP in 2016. It has now become a sort of tradition for the current McLaren driver and even the likes of great Lewis Hamilton who also joined Riccardio in shoeying at the 2020 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
