Rohit Sharma fumes at Ishan Kishan

Team India wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan had a memorable match behind the wicket in the first Test against hosts West Indies at Windsor Park in Dominica. However, it was a moment to forget for him when he walked out to bat for the first time in red-ball cricket in the second session of Day three on Friday.

Kishan took his own time to get off the mark. The wicketkeeper-batsman had to cope with the fury from captain Rohit Sharma due to his sluggish batting.

Rohit was seen making animated hand gestures from the dressing room as Kishan showed very little intent to get on with it. Kishan is not the only one taking time to score runs. In fact, almost all the Indian batters struggled with scoring rates due to the sluggish pitch on offer. None of the Indian batters who crossed the double-figure mark had a 50-plus strike.

By the reaction of Rohit Sharma, it appeared that India were planning a declaration after Kohli got out for 76. Kishan was perhaps given the responsibility to go out there and get quick runs. But instead, the southpaw took 20 balls to score his first run in Test cricket. when he finally did get that run, a displeased Rohit immediately called him and Ravindra Jadeja (37 no) back to the pavilion.

Later, opening up about the incident, Rohit stated that he wanted Ishan to open his account before calling the batters back in the hut.

“I was just letting them know we have an over or so before declaring. I wanted Ishan to get off the mark, wanted to tell him to get his personal mark and then we had to declare,” said Rohit.
