Balance of the Indian team has been severely dented for the crucial ICC ODI World Cup match against New Zealand at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharmasala due to star all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s injury.

Reflecting on Pandya’s absence, legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar feels that the Men in Blue need depth in their batting order, especially against a formidable side like New Zealand.

As per the Little Master, the Indian think tank would name either Suryakumar Yadav or Ishan Kishan in the absence of all-rounder Pandya for the all-important match.

“I would look to pick either Suryakumar Yadav or Ishan Kishan in the team to strengthen the batting. India’s problem has been losing early wickets against New Zealand’s pacers which is why India need depth in their batting order,” said Gavaskar during an interview.

Meanwhile, head coach Rahul Dravid has also hinted that India can opt for Suryakumar as a middle-order batting option against the Kiwis.

However, Suryakumar has been hit by a ball in the nets and his availability for the match is doubtful. Moreover, aggressive southpaw Ishan Kishan has also been stung by bee during the practice session.
