Anil Kumble, who turned 53 today, made his international debut for India in August of 1990 when he scalped 3 wickets against England. Hailing from Bangalore, he soon became a vital cog in the Indian team through the years. Known for his sheer accuracy and skills, Kumble has featured in 132 tests and picked 619 wickets at an average of 29.65.

1- Kumble holds the top position in taking wickets through LBW which is 156 in test cricket

2- The veteran leg spinner stands second in bowling the most dot balls in Test cricket (40850). The list is headed by Muttaih Muralitharan. 
3- During the test match between India and Pakistan, Anil Kumble created history by taking all 10 wickets for 74 runs in Bangalore. He became the second bowler to achieve this feat after Jim Laker. 
4- The veteran leg spinner took the most number of wickets (15) in the 1996 World Cup 
5- He is the third-highest wicket-taker with 956 wickets (all formats combined)

High points of Anil Kumble’s career;

In 2007, Kumble scored his first test century (110*) against England at the Oval, London. It is one of his high points in the test match career. 

He took Royal Challengers Bangalore to the final of the Indian Premier League 2009 in South Africa.

In 1995, he received the Arjuna Award conferred by the Indian government. In 2005, he was accorded with Padma Shri.

He took India to the final of the Champions Trophy 2017 in his first stint as Coach.

A prominent intersection in MG Road, Bengaluru has been named after Anil Kumble. 

He was awarded with ICC Hall of Fame award in 2015. He became the fourth Indian to achieve this feat.

He announced his retirement from international cricket in November 2008.
