Though Team India has lost against Australia in the final of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, former southpaw Gautam Gambhir feels that Rohit should be made the captain of the Men in Blue for the T20 World Cup 2024.

India will aim to end their ICC Trophy drought in the 2024 T20 World Cup to be played in USA and the Caribbean islands in June. India have not won an ICC title since 2013.

“Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma need to be picked in the Indian squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. More importantly, I want to see Rohit as the captain of the team. All-rounder Hardik Pandya has led the team in T20Is. However, I still want to see Rohit as the captain of the team for the mega event,” said Gambhir during an interview.

“In the ODI World Cup, Rohit has shown it in his batting. If Rohit decides to play T20 cricket, he should be picked as the captain of the team and not just as a batsman,” he added.

Several reports have suggested that Rohit will no longer play T20 cricket. However, there has been no official confirmation from BCCI about the development yet.
