Hunters Arrested
In a major breakthrough against wildlife crime, the Forest Department in Mayurbhanj’s Dhanchaturi area arrested two hunters after they were caught on AI-powered surveillance cameras inside the core area of Similipal. The operation comes as part of intensified monitoring efforts to protect the sanctuary’s rich biodiversity.
According to reports, a group of eight hunters had entered the forests of the Podadiha Range within the Similipal Tiger Reserve for illegal hunting. Their movement was quickly picked up by AI cameras strategically placed inside the reserve, alerting forest officials.
Based on the alert, the Forest Department conducted a swift raid in Dhanchaturi and arrested two of the hunters. They were identified as Mora Singh and Gobinda Soren. During the raid, officials also seized two country-made guns along with bows and arrows used for hunting.
While two hunters have been nabbed, six others managed to escape. Forest officials have launched a search operation to track them down and ensure stronger deterrence against poaching activities in the region.
The incident highlights how technology such as AI surveillance cameras is proving crucial in safeguarding wildlife and deterring poachers. Authorities have assured that operations will continue to curb illegal hunting and protect endangered species in the Similipal forests.
