Under the strong leadership of MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have emerged champions in the Indian Premier League (IPL) four times. Under Dhoni’s guidance, many young cricketers have flourished and performed well for CSK. Some of them have also represented the Indian team. One of such cricketers is Deepak Chahar.

Over time, Chahar has become the mainstay of CSK in the cash-rich league. The swing bowler has also represented the Indian team. Ahead of IPL 2023 final between CSK and Gujarat Titans (GT), Chahar has revealed an interesting tale about Dhoni in a television interview. As per the CSK pacer, Dhoni once overruled coach Stephen Fleming’s decision involving him which reflected his support for the youngsters in the team.

Chahar revealed in the show that Fleming was reluctant to include him in the playing XI from the start of the 2018 season. However, the Captain Cool was hell-bent on giving the swing bowler all the 14 games.

“CSK picked me in the auction in 2028. However, Fleming was reluctant to play me. But Mahi bhai disagreed with him and said that he will play all the 14 games this season,” said Chahar.

The pacer also recalled that when the team sheet for the opener was prepared, Dhoni had written his name at the top.

“Our team CEO came to me and revealed that when the team was being formed, my name was always written first,” said Chahar.
