Australia will take on India in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, the home team is struggling to find a suitable opening partner for Usman Khawaja.
Though arguable the best batsman of Australia- Steve Smith was tried for some matches as an opener, he reportedly failed to justify his promotion in the batting order.
Under the circumstances, former Australia great David Warner has made himself available for the upcoming five-Test series against India.
Former southpaw Warner had announced his retirement from the longest format of the game after playing his last Test against Pakistan. However, Warner is now ready to come out of retirement to help the national team.
“I am always available, just got to pick up the phone,” said Warner during a recent interaction.
However, no reaction could be obtained from Cricket Australia over Warner’s statement.
Though Travis Head is also one of the options as an opener, the former Australian players are not sure if Head can perform as an opener in Test cricket.
Meanwhile, the captain and coach of the Australian team have decided to play Smith as a number four batter in the line-up.
